Tatshenshini River - Yukon-Alaska (Map)
National Geographic's book, Journeys of a Lifetime, ranks the Tatshenshini River raft trip as the #1 river raft trip in the world.
The Tatshenshnini River flows through the St. Elias Mountains to Dry Bay on the Alaskan coast. The mountains contain the largest non-polar ice caps in the world. This incredible natural area has been designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
Navigating the roaring rapids of Quiet Canyon, walking on the impressive Walker Glacier, drifting among the house size icebergs of Alsek Lake, are but some of the spectacular highlites of the Tatshenshini that rate it one of the top ten river adventure trips in the world.
The Tatshenshini flows through the heart of the largest bio-preserve in the world. Grizzly bear, moose, eagle, salmon, a plethora of wildflowers including entire mountainsides painted in pink fireweed and arctic terns are just some of its abundant natural history waiting to be experienced.
